Eat Alkaline to Keep it “UP”

When it comes to health food is the building stone. There is one quote by the famous philosopher Hippocraties that really emphasises this – ‘We are what we eat.’  It is fair to say we can fix our health by eating the right food but we can also damage it by eating the wrong ones. Food is our guard against diseases, stress and toxins that we are constantly exposed to especially if we live in a big city.

There are foods that heal and there are foods that damage our bodies. Foods that have healing properties are what we call ‘alkaline forming foods’. On the other hand foods that cause damage are known as ‘acid forming foods’. So a healthy diet should consist of 60% alkaline forming foods and 40% acid forming foods and to restore health a diet should consist of 80% alkaline forming foods and 20% acid forming foods. Human blood pH should be slightly alkaline (7.35 – 7.45)- below or above this range means symptoms and disease.

A pH of 7.0 is neutral, A pH below 7.0 is acidic and A pH above 7.0 is alkaline. An acidic pH can occur from an acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any other process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. Acidic pH destroys the balance of the three important alkaline minerals – Sodium, potassium and magnesium. The body uses the calcium stocks within the bones in order to neutralize the acidic environment. As a result the alkaline mineral stocked as substitute in the body decreases.

If not treated effectively  following this the body’s immune system will be weakened and a series of symptoms will start to appear such as cellular inflammation, swollen joints, body aches, tumours, lymphatic obstructions, skin issues, allergies, flu/colds, tonsillitis, and loss of vision. Moreover all bacteria’s, fungus and parasites will grow in this acidic environment.

Fortunately following a diet balanced in acidic and alkaline will promote the body and mind’s health in general so your system will work properly and you will definitely feel more energetic, fit and alive.  A diet low in acid-producing foods like animal protein (such as meat and cheese) and bread and high in fruits/vegetables could help prevent kidney stones, keep bones and muscles strong, improve heart health and brain function, reduce low back pain and lower risk of colon cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Alkaline forming foods include most fruits, green vegetables, peas, beans, lentils, spices, herbs  and seeds /nuts whereas acid forming foods include meat, fish, poultry, eggs, grains, and legumes.
